Holy Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit (vitae spiritualis ianua), and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as sons of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission: “Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word.” (CCC 1213).
In the Sacrament of Baptism, all who are gathered have the opportunity to experience afresh the reality of God’s grace, love and forgiveness. As you experience the Baptism of your child, you are reaffirming your own Baptismal Covenant. All who are gathered have the opportunity to renew their faith and respond to their relationship with God.
Requirements
Candidate: The candidate must not have been baptized under a different Christian denomination. For an infant/child baptism, the child must be under the age of 7. Please see Rite of Christian Initiation (RCIA) for more information on Adult Baptisms
Parents: One parent must be a practicing Catholic. Both parents have the honest intention and ability to raise the child as a practicing Catholic.
Godparents: The Godparent has the role of helping the child lead a Christian life; therefore the Godparent(s) must be practicing Catholics, at least 16 years old, and have received the Sacraments of Initiation.
Baptism Preparation Meetings: This meeting is for parents and godparents held at 12:30 PM on the last Sunday of the month and runs for about 1 hour.
Baptism Ceremony: The Rite of Baptism is celebrated as a private ceremony at 12:30 PM on the second Sunday of the month.
